New and a bit alarming Who'd have ever thought that this could be? True that he's no Prince Charming But there's something in him that I simply didn't see
Well, who'd have thought? Well, bless my soul Well, who'd have known? Well, who indeed? And who'd have guessed they'd come together on their own? It's so peculiar. Wait and see We'll wait and see A few days more There may be something there that wasn't there before
Yup! If you recognize those lyrics I am working backstage for Beauty and the Beast. I know so far that I will have a detailed costume quickchange.
I flew out Tuesday night, arrived in Florida around 11. By the time Kara and I got all 6 of our combined checked suit cases, got a shuttle to the hotel, checked in and settled to bed, it was about 1:30.
First let me tell you about this hotel. They forgot our reservations, and put us in the only room left. A suite! We walk in, and there is a huge living space with sofa and coffee table, small breakfast nook-ish table by the window, an enormous bathroom and second separate sink/bar type station. The bathroom had two doors, one that led to the entrance of the suite, the other that led to the bedroom. I draw back the curtains to see outside, and I find, not a window with a view of Orlando. An enclosed porch/balcony area with another dining table and sofa and huge bay window. It was rediculous.
We woke up wednesday morning at 8 wanting to get to the check-in location by 9. We got there by 10, by the time we dressed and ate breakfast and lugged all our baggage downstairs (two elevator rides were required) and got a shuttle taxi to the place.
It was a super long day. They had us leave our bags out front and sent us in to fill a form. Then they sent us down the street in the apartment complex to fill another form. Then another. Then to get our IDs. And hour and a half later, we were reunited with out things and waiting for a bus to take us to our assigned apartment.
It's really nice. We met one of our roommates, Meg. She seems cool. We had another meeting to go to at 3. That lasted a while. Then we went to Wallmart to buy essentials.
Then we finished unpacking and moving in and crashed.
Then this morning I met our other roommate Joy before she ran out for her meeting.
Needless to say, after that second time, I dread mission impossible intensely. Last night was the second time I played it this summer. The first time I lied awake, waiting for them to wake us up, and very tensely flinched and jumped at every slightest sound. It turned out to be not so bad, our totem was kind of far, but it was liveable.
Last night was aweful in another way. They forgot to tell us that our totem had the wrong cabin name on it, so we found ours in about 10 minutes but didn't know it was ours because instead of "Aspen" it said "Ponka" *growls* we searched for another full 45 minutes before we gave up and walked to the finish line. My co was livid. We've been promised a present. I fucking hate getting out of bed to play mission impossible.
Last time, on Life At Camp With Maria, we left Maria temporarily and unexpectedly jobless for the weekend, and dreading her cabin situation with her LIT.
Sunday I returned and discovered that they switched Erin into another cabin, because the VC (knowing how difficult to handle this LIT would be) decided to place her in a cabin that had a CIT in addition to the two counselers, as an extra person on hand to help out. I got another LIT who has been pretty good. The new co-Counseler has also been great to work with. Plus, the girls this session have been really good!
Something that has been not so fun has been Village Night Out. Instead of everyone getting a night off like we always do, we all had to take one together. That meant that staff had to cover other cabins in other villages since both counselers are out. Wednesday night I covered my old cabin, Otari. The girls were crazy, there was actually a five minute period where they all dissapeared on me. I was not amused. Then the counselers didn't get back until after 1 (we are supposed to be back by 12). I was exhausted. Then last night was our night out. The camp director was supposed to join us, but at the last minute decided not to. Disgustingly, many people in the village cheered at this news, because that meant they could get as wasted as they wanted. We went on a skipjack boat. It was way too small for all of us, you had to climb over people to walk anywhere. It was fun though. I love boats. THEN the night got really classy let me tell you!!! since the boat ride was over by 9. Everyone decided to go to the beach about 20 minutes away from camp. Of course, every car had made sure of getting at least one person over 21, so that they could pick up "sodas" on the way (this had occured on the way to the boat as well. . . . ). The unders in my car asked the three overs, but I refused. I wouldn't have cared much if they had some, but I wasn't buying it. I refused to be it my fault they got fired. The other two felt the same way. Anyway, the beach was a drag. More than half the staff went skinnydipping in their undewhere, a couple of the guys (boy and girl villages of the same age went out together) stripped to nothing. That WAS amusing because one staff member hid everyone's clothes. grrr. Break is over.
I have been in such a good mood the last two days. Tuesday night was my night off. I went with some people here at camp to see Order of the Phoenix. OMG Best one ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I honestly think it was THE most faithful to the books. I was so excited through the whole movie at how perfect it was. There were whole chunks of dialogue taken verbatem out of the book. THAT made the film for me. I cheered every time that happened. Umbridge was perfect. Holy fuck her laugh was spot on! I was ready to slug her by the end of that trial and I loved it. I was uncontrollably, deleriously excited through the whole movie and the rest of the night and all of yesterday at how much I loved the movie.
Then yesterday, I woke up, and as usual, I reach over for my desk calendar (the little rip-off page-a-day deals) to rip the last day off and read yesterday's quote (it's quote-a-day), and it wasn't there. In it's place was a piece of paper with greek-style writing that says "We've kidnapped your countdown. Now you'll never know when Harry Potter comes out! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! -Voldemort" . . . . ROFLMAO. Now my campers have made a huge game out of who kidnapped my calendar. -----ooooh this just in!!!!! I JUST RIGHT NOW, AS I TYPED THIS found out who took it. My co-counseller took it. FABU. Anyway. Continuing the story- They referred to it as my countdown because about two weeks ago I took a marker and flipped to page july20 and wrote "TONIGHT! HURRAY!!" and on the 21st wrote "OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!" And on the 19th wrote "1" and "2" on the 18th and so forth untill the current day (which was day 14 on the countdown). Then this morning, we got back from breakfast, and July 18th's quote was taped to our cabin door. I'm having so much fun with this, I love pranks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I go home tonight HURRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I requested a 36 hour break, which you only get for working the changeover period between sessions, so I will have to work changeover between 3rd and 4th sessions. WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!! I have relatives from Ecuador coming this weekend. They flew in either yesterday or this morning, I can't remember. I'll see them tonight. We will get our books (my cousin loves HP) friday night, then I will have to be back on camp by lunch on Saturday which means I will have 5 hours to mock the campers because I will have the book and they wont (mail gets distributed right before dinner and the camp director expects we'll see at least 30 packages from Amazon sent straight here).
The same jumble of musical theater in my head as always
haha I've become obsessed with that song and MUST see the musical (I am talking about the title of my entry, also the title of a song from the broadway musical Legally Blonde).
Let's see, interesting things to report? I took my quote-of-the-day calendar and wrote a countdown on it untill HP. the count today was 14 BABY YEA!!!!!!!!!!! GAH I'm going nuts in anticipation. I was dissapointed, because I was talking about it to the camp director, and I mentioned that I have already (jokingly) demanded my day off on that night so I can get my book at midnight, and that I will happily brag to the campers who do not have their boos, because they are at camp, and can't go to midnight parties. The best they could do is wait for their parents to mail them a copy, in which case the earliest time they'll have it is mail-call (dinner time)on that monday (overnighted from saturday the 21st). He said "do you know how many will have the book sent directly here from amazon? They'll all have it by dinner saturday night." :-( I won't be able to brag.
other than that, nothing too new. Camp is mindnumbingly repetative. Was that even worth posting? leave me love, anything to make me feel connected to the outside world. my cell is dead and my charger I left at home.
